Hello from So Cal…..
Hello to all our friends & family! Bjorn, being the fabulously computer-savvy husband that he is, has created a website for us, in order to keep you up to date on our Southern California (and other) adventures. I won’t pretend it’ll get updated daily (no one misses us THAT much anyways!) - but check in every once and a while to see what we have been up to. (and if any of you have blogs or other websites that we may not know of, let us know so we can check in with you too!) As you can see, we have a few (already outdated) posts, with more to come.
We miss and love you all and are thankful to have such special individuals in our lives. So - thanks for your role in our lives, and hope you enjoy! Please look us up if you are in the neighborhood…..

Independence Day
Our pastor is a pretty sweet dude. Because of this, and before I continue, I have to share just a snippet of his thoughts on Fourth of July:
“The Fourth of July is this week. As you know, our Founding Fathers framed a document we call the Declaration of Independence, authored by Thomas Jefferson and signed in 1776.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. That they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
We often forget that in declaring independence from an earthly power, our forefathers made a direct declaration of dependence upon God Almighty. The closing words of this document declare: “With a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.”
So it’s not only a “Declaration of Independence” from foreign tyranny. It’s also the “Declaration of Dependence” on God Almighty.”

The Neighbors
For those of you who are blissfully unaware of the “909″, let me first say that it is our area code. If you spend any significant amount of time in So Cal, you may hear of the 909. As in “ohh, you live in the 909?” (read: ’Gee, that’s too bad’ tone) Or “I will NEVER change my cell phone to a 909 area code.” Yup, I have had both of these statements made to me at one time or another: there is DEFINITELY a stereotype attached to this area code….This is the stigma we live with daily. Now, don’t get me wrong, there’s truth behind the myth. Case in point….. 3 days ago as we were walking out to our car, we see another car come zipping down the road toward the apartment complex exit. This wasn’t amusing in and of itself. Now where it gets interesting is when you add a woman, barefoot and wearing a thin swimsuit cover-up, laying on the hood, and yelling at the dude behind the wheel. They continued out of the apartment complex and headed down the street. Shaking our heads and wishing we didn’t have stories like these to tell our friends, we got in our own car and headed out….and come to find said neighbors pulled off to the side of the road, down the street and around the corner. They had actually driven a full block through a stop light before the driver pulled over, and now were finishing their argument through the windshield. We debated calling 911 to prevent a serious injury, but well, at least he didn’t take her onto the freeway….
We thought that living in the nicest apartment complex would weed out some of the less intelligent species, but maybe not. Hood surfers aside, we’re pretty happy with our apartment and realize it could be a lot worse. But let’s face it peeps, we’re not in Kansas anymore, we’re in the 909…..More to come on that we’re sure!
